A new engagement – Alex and Steve

Where did it start?

Steve and I met in high school. The moment I saw him I had the BIGGEST crush on him. However, at the time he was a coach at my high school. I know what you are thinking, but for quite some time it was just a dream of mine. A long four years later, after I graduated we went on our first date. We aren’t really sure as to when we officially started dating and stopped being friends but somewhere along the line we decided we liked each other. 🙂858652_4893224203374_1720022547_o

How long have you been together?

We have known each other for 9 years now but have been dating for 5ish years now (remember, there was no official date that we started dating).

The proposal:

Steve and I are very non-traditional. We had been talking about it for a while and I was looking at rings I liked. I finally found a ring that I just couldn’t pass up. So we were sitting around and he looked at me and said “Let’s do it”. I know, I know…it’s not some crazy story with hot air balloons and rose petals but it was perfect. It was low key, personal and very him. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Upcoming Colorado Wedding at The Lionsgate Center: Duane & Lindsey

Introducing the beautiful Lindsey and Duane

hake_ottema_high-0019 hake_ottema_high-0025

Lindsey and Duane will be tying the knot on June 28th 2013!

Where did it all begin?

“Duane and I met at the hospital that we both currently work at.  I was starting my senior practicum of nursing school in the ICU.  I met Duane my first night while waiting for an open heart patient to return from the operating room.  A group of us were talking about scuba diving while we waited; a hobby Duane and I both have in common.  My preceptor at the time told Duane that when you dive you get to meet pretty girls.  Her sly way of trying to initiate something between the two of us.  Duane and I started of meeting and exchanging small talk that first night.  Following that he seemed to avoid me like the plague.  I had heard from fellow co-workers he wanted to ask me out but never did.  He was being a gentleman and wanted to respect that I was there to learn not to date.  A couple weeks later I finally took it upon myself to call Duane while at work to give him my number since he had yet to ask for it.  A move that embarrassed him and as I am told made him turn bright red in one of his patients rooms.  That night Duane made his way to see me and officially asked for my number.  We went on a few lunch dates following that and then eventually had our official first date.  One that I couldn’t have imagined to go better:  Catch in the park, Cold Stone ice cream, Wii bowling, sushi dinner, and dancing.  A perfect beginning to our story.”

Time well spent

“We have known each other for just under 2 years (about a year and 8 months).  We have been dating for just over a year and a half. ”

Tell us how he proposed!

“We were spending the weekend in Newcastle, Wyoming at his parent’s house.  Duane had planned to take me to Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota to see the waterfalls even though I was feeling sick.  The first stop was Roughlock Falls.  While walking down the trail we actually came across a small wedding ceremony; a site that was fitting considering the events that were to follow.  We continued along the trail to the bottom of the falls.  While enjoying the beautiful site Duane surprised me by getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him.  My was response was “Are you serious?”To which Duane replied “I’m on one knee with a ring… I am pretty serious.”  The obvioius answer was yes.  We celebrated alone for a few moments in front of the falls then made our way back up the trail.  The rest of the day was spent enjoying lunch and site seeing in Spearfish and then making our was back to Newcastle to share the news with family and friends.”

Why did you decide on the Dove House?

“When trying to find a venue we wanted to pick a place that took a lot of the pressure off of us as far as planning and finding vendors.  Lionsgate has definitely accomplished that for us thus far.  The planning process has been really enjoyable and stress free.  We chose the Dove House specifically because we loved the unique, vintage feel of the layout; an area that is cozy yet accommodates a large group of people.  We did not want the typical ballroom type reception.  We are also big dancers and having a designated dance area was definitely a plus for us.  Having a space that also offers and outdoor ceremony site and indoor reception in one location was a plus with all the out of town guests that will be coming.  I am incredibly excited for the big day and can’t wait to see how everything turns out.”

Sarah Jane & Paul – Winter wedding at The Lionsgate Center – Gatehouse

Sarah Jane & Paul got married on a snowy, December day. Unlike many people, they had 2 receptions with us here at The Lionsgate Center. Only people as sweet as SJ & Paul could know 600 people to celebrate with, therefore they had to separate the fun into two nights. But let me tell you, it was two nights to remember!

The ceremony started at a place near and dear to the couple – their church. The girls got final touches done in a cozy room while the boys put on jackets on the opposite side.

The “you may kiss the bride” just happened to be the cutest I’ve ever seen. 5′ 2″ Sarah Jane had a special stool to stand on to kiss 6′ 4″ Paul.

After they made it official, they had a classic ride waiting for them to take them to their reception at The Lionsgate Center – Gatehouse.

Upcoming wedding at the Lionsgate Center: Shauna and Brian

Introducing the beautiful Shauna and BrianJS_ShaunaBrian (1 of 1)-8

Shauna and Brian are making it official on June 21st at the beautiful outdoor wedding center – The Lionsgate Center, Gatehouse.

Shauna and Brian are meant to be! A classic friendship that turned into more.

Tell us how it began…

Brian and I met when we both worked for a non-profit organization called Imagine! Colorado. Together, we worked as therapeutic instructors for adults and children who have been diagnosed with developmentally disabilities. Brian and I grew closer as friends and started dating. Although we have both moved on from the job, together we keep in contact with some of the clients and a few will be attending the wedding!

Just how long has it been?

We have known each other for four years and have been dating for three years (just had our anniversary on Jan 1st.)

The proposal through his eyes

Red Roses and White Snow. That soft image was stuck In my head the winter I proposed to Shauna.

Almost like a miracle, at the perfect time and on the perfect day, the heavens opened up and beautiful Boulder, Colorado was dusted with fresh powder. There is a place near Chitaqua Park with a null that overlooks the city. On the top of the hill there is a stone bench and a single tree. I had been going to this spot since high school and would often retreat there to ponder the world with my friends. I remember telling them that this would be the perfect place to get engaged…and that day had finally arrived.

Of course, I couldn’t do it alone. My brother was my wing man through all of the planning and had woken up early that morning to prepare the spot with roses. After Shauna found my note saying, “You are invited to a special snowy breakfast, so bring your snow boots and dress warm because it’s cold outside”, she eagerly got into the car looking forward to pancakes. But little did she know we were arriving at a trail head for a different surprise. It was there where she noticed the single rose that my brother had stuck in the snow under the trail sign. After plucking up the rose, Shauna agreed to travel up the hill through the deep powder to see what was ahead. Once we reached the crest of the hill, the path continued with roses guiding the way to the bench where hundreds of rose petals were scattered in the snow.

It was there that I asked Shauna Marie to marry me. We looked over the city getting beautifully dusted with snow and I told her I wanted to spend all of our beautiful days together. To make the moment more magical, my brother had taken photos of the whole event.

Then, the three of us ended up going to our special snow breakfast to celebrate.

What makes the Gatehouse perfect for you?

We wanted a backyard/home feel for our vintage style reception. We were not sure where to begin and then a friend told us about a wedding she attended at the Dove House and encouraged us to check it out. We made an appointment for a tour of the Lionsgate Center (the first place we visited) and fell in love with the whole place, the Gate House in particular. We loved the garden with big trees and the patio and of course the fountain outside. Inside the house, we thought the stained glass and wood work was the perfect warming feel that we were looking for. We booked it and decided we did not need to look anywhere else!

Wedding Vows, Wedding Vows

I’m not even engaged yet and I get nervous at the thought of “performing” wedding vows in front of so many people! Does that happen to you, or is it just me? Well anyway…

I’ve been around a few weddings, ya know, just one or two. 😉 So I’ve picked up some options for wedding vows and thought I would share them with you!

The classic

I, (name), take you, (name), to be my [opt: lawfully wedded] (husband/wife), my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

The Personal

Brian, because I love you, I promise to treat you the way you want to be treated, and give you the respect you deserve. I promise to maintain your trust with my words and actions. I promise to always be your partner in crime and adventure, your lover, your sounding board, your co-pilot, your sous-chef, your copyeditor, and your friend. I will tell you when you are wrong and help you to find a righter way, without making excuses or rescuing you. I will respect your boundaries. I will pack light. I will help you figure out how you feel. I will pay attention and give you time. I will listen, both to what you say, and to what you don’t say. I promise to always share what’s in my heart, even if I am afraid. I will strive to be my best self for you.

Hannah and Michael 2

The hilarious

“Jamie Marie, from this day forward I promise to be worth it. Worth the time. Worth the trip. Worth the energy. Worth the embarrassment. Worth your love. I promise that you will always count. You will always come first, and of course, if you don’t for whatever reason, I will buy you some shoes.

From the moment you entered my world, you have filled it with life, color, and energy like never before…like kool-aid in a mud puddle…or a cupcake in a salad…or a rose garden in a junk yard. You are my rose, Jamie Marie, and I promise to devote my life to being your dirt.”

Did you know that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston vowed to always split the difference on the thermostat? I love that. Just what my boyfriend and I need to vow!

Well, I hope this helps you figure out just what you want to say on YOUR big day! Have fun planning!!
