Brides and grooms YOU get to be the DJ at your ceremony!
Well, usually not quite to this level…but you do get to pick the songs!
Are you delighted about this? Have you had a mental wedding playlist for years? Are there certain songs that completely embody your relationship with your honey? If so…great…as long as you won’t look back on the choices years later and frown in disgust we encourage our couples to personalize their playlist! Last month I witnessed a strong example of straying from the traditional when a bride and groom recessed to “Another One Bite the Dust.” While it was fun and upbeat I couldn’t help but focus on the lyrics. Hmmmm…gotta keep an ear out for lyrics.
If you are at a loss on where to even begin and have turned to Google for answers – this is the post for you. We hear wedding music all weekend long, every weekend – in fact I bet many of us unknowingly hum the bridal chorus in our sleep. I took a quick office poll for ceremony favorites. Here are the results:
Note: I didn’t want to go too crazy with posting videos so make sure to click on the song & artist links that are in orange below to hear them!
Seating of family:
“Clair de Lune” – Debussy
“Trio for Two Flutes and a Harp” – Berlioz … or the many instrumental variations
Bridal Party Processional:
Sticking with a tried and true recommendation here: “Canon in D” – Pachelbel
This recommendation is super traditional but has a modern fee: “Bridal March” – Jonthan Cain
“Here Comes The Sun” – Instrumental (I posted the Beatles version below but there are lots of versions out there!)
“Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” – Dean Martin
“I Do” – Colbie Caillat
“Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours” – Stevie Wonder
“Wedding March” – Mendelssohn – A classic available in many instrumental variations.
Here are some other popular love songs that you can work in wherever you see fit:
“Marry Me” – Train – Touching music video…Must watch!
“Lucky” – Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat
“Marry You” – Bruno Mars…Obviously I had to show the following video…
“When I say I Do” – Matthew West … Video shot and edited by Brian DeFrees for his friend’s wedding.
What a good group of songs AND videos. I got a little teary-eyed watching the videos.
